McCracken County Lady Mustangs win the 1st region Championship.

The 2024 McCracken County Lady Mustangs galloped into the 1st Region tournament with a vengeance. Their sights were set on the championship trophy, and their determination was fueled by a close loss to their rivals, the Graves County Lady Eagles, just weeks earlier.

Leading the charge was senior point guard, Claire Johnson. Johnson, a sharpshooter with a killer crossover, averaged a blistering 23.5 points per game throughout the season. Her backcourt partner, senior forward Mikee Buchanan, wasn't far behind, averaging 15 points a game with her smooth jump shot and fearless drives to the basket. There hustle and energy were infectious, igniting the team's defensive intensity.

The tournament unfolded like a well-rehearsed play. Johnson orchestrated the offense, finding Buchanan for easy layups and kicking out to Hughes for open threes. Sophomore shooting guard Reagan Hill, known for her clutch play, provided a spark throughout the tournament.

The championship game was a nail-biter. The Lady Eagles, hungry for revenge after last season lost in the region semi-finals. McCracken County came out strong. But the Lady Mustangs weathered the storm. Johnson hit a clutch three-pointer, putting McCracken County up by 4 the Lady Mustangs never looked back from there. The jubilant Lady Mustangs erupted in celebration.

The final score: McCracken County 51, Graves County 35. The trophy was hoisted high, and the cheers echoed through the arena. The McCracken County Lady Mustangs were the 2024 1st Region champions, a testament to their talent, teamwork, and unwavering spirit.

McCracken County Lady Mustangs are set to face off against the 16th Regions Russell Red Devils in the Mingua Beef Jerky Sweet 16 Tournament on Wednesday March the 13th.
