It was a tense evening on the baseball field as the Clay County Tigers faced off against Whitley County. Clay County was able to pull out the narrow victory 5-4. From the first pitch, it was clear that this would be a closely contested match. Both teams fought tooth and nail, trading blows. But it was the Clay County Tigers who struck the decisive blow, and it came in the form of a towering home run off the bat of Ethan Jackson. With the game tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the second inning, Jackson stepped up to the plate and hammered one. That was all they would need to pull out the victory. But the Whitley Colonels wasn't going down without a fight. In the top of the fourth inning, they rallied, pushing a runner across the plate and closing the gap to just one run. With the game on the line, it all came down to the Tigers' pitcher, Brandin Crawford. With nerves of steel, Crawford took to the mound. Pitch after pitch, he delivered with pinpoint accuracy, striking out 11 batters over the course of seven innings. Despite allowing three hits and four runs, all unearned, Crawford never wavered. With a calm demeanor and a killer fastball, he shut down the Whitley's' offense when it mattered most, securing the 5-4 victory for the Clay County Tigers. It's hard not to think both these teams will be major players for a Region Championship. All we can say Round 1 goes to Clay
