Cardinals edge North Laurel 7-5

(London, KY) Wayne County opened up the scoring in the first inning after Palmer Smith singled, and scoring one run.

 

North Laurel took the lead 2-1 in the bottom of the first inning after two ground ball outs. Jaguars extended their early lead with two runs in the bottom of the second thanks to a RBI groundouts by Carter Kelly and Smith.

 

Cardinals took back the lead in the fourth inning. When Brayden Evans and Dylan Tucker hit into a fielder's choice, but two runs scored, to give the Cardinals the 5-4 lead.

 

Ryan Coffey earned the win for the Cardinals, allowing seven hits and two runs over four innings, striking out two and walking none. Brayden Evans took the loss for the Jaguars, went four innings, giving up five runs (two earned) on four hits, striking out two and walking three. Gage Gregory led the Cardinals on the mound. He gave up three hits and two runs over one inning, striking out one and walking one. Tucker earned the save.

 

North Laurel had 10 hits in the game. Andrew Cupp, Eli Holt, Kelley, and Jude McWhorter each drove in one run. While the Jaguars turned one double play in the game. Gregory and Caleb Sargent each collected two hits for the Cardinals. Gregory led the Cardinals with two runs batted in, while going 2-3 on the day. Wayne County had six walks in the game. Riley Jones and Smith led with two walks.
