Lady Jackets and Lady Cats have slugfest 10-9

(Middlesboro, KY) It the cross-county showdown and 52nd District game between the Bell County Lady Cats and the Middlesboro Lady Jackets. 

 

What a game this was going to turn out to be. Coach Petie Gilbert and Coach David Teague had there teams ready to play tonight.

 

The Lady Jackets opened up the scoring in the bottom of the first inning, when Yoakum singles on a fly ball to the second baseman allowing Lawson to score giving the Lady Jackets the 1-0 lead. Betts scores on a pass ball making it 2-0 Middlesboro. Then Yoakum scores on another pass ball making it 3-0 Middlesboro. The Lady Cats where able to get out of the inning on a fly ball to Center field. Middlesboro answers with some more runs in the bottom of the second inning, when Yoakum triples to right field allowing Jackson, Partin and Betts all to score, making the score 6-0 Middlesboro. Then Moyers doubles on a line drive to Center field allowing Yaokum to score to make it 7-0. 

 

Bell County answered with a run in the top of the third inning, when Jadea Boateng grounded out to the shortstop, allowing Maiden to score, trimming the Lady Jackets lead to 7-1. The Lady Cats didn't allow the Lady Jackets to score in the bottom of the third inning. 

 

In the top of the fourth inning, when Maiden hits an inside the park home run to right field allowing Rose and Scott to score, making the score 7-4 Middlesboro.

 

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Lawson laided down a sacrifice bun to the pitcher allowing Betts to score making the score 8-4 in the bottom of the fourth inning. 

 

In the fifth inning both teams go scoreless.

 

In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Lady Jackets added a run on a sacrifice fly to the right fielder allowing Lawson to score, making the score 9-4 Middlesboro, then the next play another sacrifice fly this time to the center fielder, allowed Betts to score, making the score 10-4 Middlesboro.

 

As we go to the top of the seventh inning, the Lady Cats need 6 runs to tie to keep the game alive, as a good start for Coach Teague and the Lady Cats when Thomas singles to left field, Lawson strikeout. Foster singles to center allowing Thomas to advance to second base with one out. Lucas singles to Center field allowing Thomas to score, trimming the Lady Jackets lead down to five, making the score 10-5. Rose singles to the second baseman allowing Foster to score making it 10-6 Middlesboro. Scott comes up and delivers a single allowing Lucas to score, making the score now 10-7 Middlesboro. Rose steals third base, and Scott steals second base. Maiden strikeout making it two outs. The tie run steal coming to the plate. Fetters comes up to the plate and singles on a fly ball to the second baseman allowing both Rose and Scott to score on a two out RBI single. The Lady Cats have trimmed the lead to 10-9 as Boateng comes to the plate. She flies out to end the game. 

 

The comeback effort falls a bit short for the Lady Cats as what an effort by this young bunch of Lady Cats.

Up Next for the Lady Cats and the Lady Jackets, they will be back in action Tuesday (April 23) as they will play each other at Bell County, the game-time is set for 5:30 PM.

 

Bell County falls to 7-11 on the season, Middlesboro improves to 8-10 on the season.
