(Williamsburg, KY) It's the first round of the 2024 Girls Volleyball State Tournament. The Whitley County Lady Colonels the Champions out of the 13th Region played host to the Paintsville Lady Tigers Champions out of the 15th Region.
Whitley County Lady Colonels look to advance to the Quarterfinals for the second consecutive year
Paintsville Lady Tigers look to make history and advance to the Quarterfinals for the first time in School History.
In the opening set the Paintsville Lady Tigers got things a rolling when they scored the first 5 points of the game leading 5-0. The Lady Colonels got on the board then each team trades points by the score of 6-2. Then the Lady Tigers roll with 3 straight points leading 8-2 while the Lady Colonels call a timeout down 6. Then the Lady Colonels score 4 straight points to put it back in with 3 points trailing 10-7. Whitley County called a timeout later in the first set trailing 20-14. The Lady Tigers extend there lead with 6 straight points leading 22-25. Whitley County would fight back but would eventually fall into the first set by the score of 25-19.

In the second set Whitley County would take the first led in the second set then the Lady Tigers make a run to 9-3 before the Lady Colonels call a timeout. Paintsville makes another run to extend the lead to 16-5 before Whitley County calls another timeout. The Lady Tigers go on to win the second set by the score of 25-10

In the third set went backwards and forth, the Lady Colonels score the first point in the third set. Paintsville ends up tied at 3. Then the Lady Tigers end up taking the lead at 4-3, before the Lady Colonels tie it back up then Paintsville retakes the lead. Then Whitley County reties the game up at 7. Then Paintsville extends the lead at 12-9, timeout Whitley County. Paintsville extends the lead 19-13, while Whitley County calls its last timeout of the third set. Paintsville ends up winning the third set by the score of 24-16.

The Paintsville Lady Tigers make score history by advancing to the State Quarterfinals, they will be playing in the 2024 Girls Volleyball State Tournament Quarterfinals will play the Scott Lady Eagles at George Rogers Clark in Winchester, KY on Friday Afternoon at 5:00 PM
The magical run by the Whitley County Lady Colonels might had ended tonight. Most thought after losing seven seniors from last year's squad, Whitley County would had taken a step back. They silenced the doubters with another deep run. With a solid nucleus of Sophomores, Whitley County will be back looking for a four-peat in the Region.
