The Harlan County Black Bears staged a dramatic comeback for the ages on Thursday night, clawing their way back from a 16-point deficit to defeat the Campbell County Camels 85-71 in overtime at the UK Healthcare Boys' Basketball Sweet 16®.
The game looked to be slipping away from the Black Bears late in the third quarter, but a furious rally spearheaded by senior Trent Noah turned the tide. Noah, a three-star guard, poured in a staggering 48 points, including a clutch shots throughout the game to send it to overtime His scoring outburst was a clinic in efficiency, going 16-23 from the field, a scorching 7-10 from beyond the arc, and a perfect 9-9 from the free throw line.
Noah wasn't a one-man show, however. Junior guard Maddox Huff provided invaluable support with a 22-point, 9-rebound performance. Huff's all-around game, including seven assists, was crucial in keeping the Black Bears within striking distance. Reggie Cottrell also chipped in with a solid 8 points and 6 rebounds to bolster the Harlan County effort.
The Camels controlled much of the game, building a seemingly comfortable lead heading into the final quarter. But the Black Bears defense tightened up in the closing minutes, and Noah caught fire offensively. His barrage of three-pointers ignited the Harlan County crowd and forced Campbell County into a desperate scramble.
In the overtime period, the Black Bears completely dominated, outscoring the Camels 16-2. Noah continued his offensive onslaught, but it was the team's defensive intensity that sealed the victory. The Black Bears hounded the Camels on every possession, forcing turnovers and contested shots.
