In a high-stakes matchup for the Kentucky 2A-Section 7 Championship, Perry County Central emerged victorious with an impressive 16-5 win over Corbin.
Perry County Central wasted no time, opening the game with a commanding four-run lead in the top of the first inning. Kate Grigsby kicked off the scoring spree with a crucial double that brought in two runs. Taylan Hoskins followed suit with a double of her own, adding another run to Perry's tally, while Olivia Robinson's single contributed to the early lead.
Maintaining their momentum, Perry County Central extended their lead to a commanding 12-1 advantage by the top of the fifth inning. However, Corbin refused to go down without a fight, mounting a spirited rally in the bottom half of the inning. Bailey Stewart's fielder's choice resulted in a run for Corbin, while Danni Foley's double and Morgan Hicks' powerful home run to center field added three more runs to their score, narrowing the deficit.
Despite Corbin's resurgence, Perry County Central responded, putting the game out of reach by adding four more runs in the top of the sixth inning.
Although Corbin fell short in this contest, they will regroup and prepare for their upcoming matchup against Raceland in Florida on Sunday.
