On April 10th, 2024, Pineville's Rachel Howard got her 1000's strikeout. Howard now sits at 1013 total strikeouts and counting. Rachel hit the 1000's strikeout milestone as a sophomore.
In the 2021 season Rachel was a 7th grader pitching at the varsity level. She had 324 strikeouts in 21 games. Breaking that down to an average by game. Rachhel average of 16.51 strikeouts per game. All of this was done as a 7th grader.
In the 2022 season Rachel was an 8th grader pitching for the varsity team. She had 299 strikeouts in a 22-game span. Breaking this down. Rachel average was 14.84 strikeouts per game. This was done as a 8th grader. At this point Howard at hit the 500-strikeout milestone as a 8th grader. Rachels total was 623 strike outs.
In the 2023 season Rachel was a freshman. She had 275 strikeouts in a 21-game span. Breaking this down to an average of strikeouts per game. Rachel averaged 14.05 strikeouts per game. For a total of 898 total strikeouts.
In the ongoing 2024 season Rachel has 115 strikeouts in 8 games pitched. With 18 games remaining on Pineville's regular season and the district tournament and the regional tournament still left to go. I am looking forward to seeing why her total will be at by the end of the 2024 season. As of now she has 1013 total strikeouts.
The Kentucky state record on the KHSAA website is 1964 total strikeouts. Montana Fouts from East carter set that record from 2012 - 2018. Rachel is only 951 total strikeouts away from that record. Which is very possible for her to reach and surpass. On an average of 26 games a season and the 18 games left this season. Rachel would need to average 13.6 strikeouts per game over the course of the remainder of this season and each game in her junior and senior season. This is also calculated without the district tournament and regional tournament games that she will play in.
To be a just a sophomore and to reach the milestones that she has already reached in a short time is a testament to the work that Rachel has put in on the softball field and the work that she puts in off the field. The sky is the limit for Rachel and I can't wait to see what is in store for Rachel.
