
(Monticello, KY) The Whitley County Lady Colonels went down to Wayne County High School, to take part in the Lady Cardinals Triangle. Their opponents for the day was the Garrard County Lady Lions, and the Wayne County Lady Cardinals.
Garrard County Lady Lions
In game number one they opened up with the Garrard County Lady Lions.
Lady Colonels opened up the scoring in the first after an error scored one run.
Murphy singled with helped the Lady Lions tie the game at one in the bottom of the third inning.
In the top of the fourth inning, the Lady Colonels broke up the tie when Caylee Singleton grounded out, scoring one run. A single by Amber Brown extended their lead to 3-1.
Lady Lions scored one run in the bottom of the fifth inning on a solo home run to center field by Childress.
Singleton earned the win for the Lady Colonels, she gave up 10 hits and three runs over six innings, striking out three and walking two. Carpenter took the loss for the Lady Lions. She went six innings, surrendering eight runs (five earned( on nine hits, striking out three and walking five.
Singleton seized on their opportunites, leading the Lady Colonels with two runs batted in from the seven spot in the lineup. Jayden Barton and Kara Canada each collected three hits. Hallie Huddleston paced the Lady Colonels with two walks. They had four stolen bases as a team. The Lady Colonels turned one double play.
The Lady Lions had 10 hits in the game. While Whittaker, Childress, Murphy, and Shelton each collected two hits. While Childress, Murphy, and Logan each drove in one run.
Wayne County Lady Cardinals
Lady Colonels opened up the scoring in the top of the first inning thanks to two singles.
Wayne County flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the third inning, scoring six runs on four hits to take a 6-2 lead. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Garner that drove in two.
Kara Canada opened the game for the Lady Colonels, she gave up four hits and six runs (three earned) over two and one-third innings, striking out one and walking none. Debord started the game for the Cardinals, she surrendered five hits and four runs (two earned) over five innings, striking out four and walking four.
Jayden Barton and Morgan Huddleston each drove in one run for the Lady Colonels.
Garner provided the pop in the middle of the line-up which led the Lady Cardinals with two runs batted in. She went 2-2 on the day.
Up Next for the Lady Colonels, they will be back in action on Monday (April 15) as they will travel to Williamsburg, KY in a cross-town showdown with the Williamsburg Lady Jackets, game-time is set for 6:00 PM
