Black Bears defeat Yellow Jackets in District Opener

(Middlesboro, KY) It was 52nd District Opener for the Harlan County Black Bears as they open up their District Schedule. While Middlesboro has already played one district game so far. The Black Bears look to go out on a strong start on the road at Middlesboro.

 

The Black Bears got on the board in the top of the first inning after Alex Creech doubled, scoring one run, Tristan Cooper singled, scoring two runs, Mason Himes singled, scoring one run, and a steal of home scored one run.

 

Black Bears added to their early lead in the top of the second inning when Alex Creech, grounded out, scoring two runs, Tristan Cooper singled, scoring one run, and an error scored one run. Black Bears added three more runs in the top of the sixth inning on four hits. Mason Himes homered to left field, scoring two runs, and Issac Kelly singled, scoring one run.

 

Alex Creech earned the win the for the Harlan County Black Bears, He gave up six hits and three runs (one earned) over four and two-thirds innings, striking out five and walking two. Case Bayless took the loss for the Yellow Jackets, He went six innings, surrendering 15 runs (10 earned) on 14 hits, striking out three and walking five. Jesse Gilbert threw one and one-third innings of scoreless ball in relief. He allowed one hit, striking out two and walking none.

 

Harlan County had 14 hits in the game. Himes and Cooper were a one-two punch in the Black Bear lineup, as each player  drove in three runs. Cooper went 3-4 at the plate. Kelly, Creech, and Samel Henson each collected multiple hits for the Black Bears.

 

Malachi Coots, Cayden Burchett, and Ethan Johnson each drove in one run for the Yellow Jackets. Cayden Burchett had two hits in three at bats. The Yellow Jackets turned one double play in the game.

 

Up Next for both teams, they will return to action tomorrow as these two teams will meet at Harlan County High School, game time is set for 6:00 PM
