Colonels roll into the 13th Region Title game with a 10-0 victory over Clay County

(Barbourville, KY) It's the 13th Region Baseball Tournament Semi-finals in game number 2 will feature the runners-up out of the 50th District the Whitley County Colonels verses the Champions out of the 49th District the Clay County Tigers.

 

The game remained scoreless until the Top of the third inning when the Whitley County Colonels exploded by putting up 6 runs on the board. Thanks to a walk by Wilson, Anderson scoring on an error on the play, A single by Wright allowing Bryant to score, Nunley reaching on an error allowing Osborne to score, a ground out by Rose allowed Wright to score, and a single by Cureton allowed Nunley to score. Making your score after three inning 6-0 Whitley County.

 

The Whitley County Colonels extended their lead in the top of the fourth inning on a dropped third strike allowed Anderson to score, and then a sacrifice fly by Wright allowed Bryant to score to make the score 8-0 Whitley County.

 

Then in the top of the fifth inning a single by Allen allowed Rose to score, and then a sacrifice fly by Anderson allowed Cureton to score to make the score 10-0 Whitley County.

Rose started on the mound for the Colonels, he went 2.0 innings, gave up only 3 walks on 2 Strikeouts He got the win for the Colonels. Came into relief for the Colonels was Allen, he gave up only one walk on 5 strikeouts. Both pitchers combined for a no-hitter for the Whitley County Colonels.

 

Hooker started on the mound for the Tiges, he went 2.0 innings, he gave up 2 hits on 4 runs (3 earned), 2 walks, and 2 Strikeouts. He also took the loss for the Tigers. Came into relief for the Tigers was Rice, he went 3.0 innings, gave up 5 hits on 6 runs (3 earned), 1 walk and 1 Strikeout.

 

Whitley County will advance to the 13th Region Championship game tonight was they are taking on Corbin it is being played at Knox Central High School.
